National capital fitday 201212/27/2023 We started the week with the announcement that our Natural Capital Protocol Toolkit is now live on MIT Shift as part of a larger, more integrated resource with a number of benefits, including MIT’s smart AI technology, which automates the process of adding new tools to the kit. MIT Shift and the Natural Capital Protocol Toolkit WBCSD was present at the event to showcase our work on mainstreaming non-financial assessments, to introduce the new Natural Capital Protocol Toolkit and to inform the broader community about the new, European Commission funded, “ We Value Nature” campaign. The Natural Capital Coalition’s “Collaboration Day,” was a cornerstone, bringing together a multi-stakeholder audience of more than 100 experts. At least 20 WBCSD member companies participated. Altogether, over 1,000 people from across the world gathered at 12 separate events, over 5 days, hosted by 16 convening organizations. Last week, Paris was buzzing with talk of how to value nature in business and policy decision-making as part of an action-packed “Natural Capital Week” 2018. This framework, alongside other areas of the committee’s advice, laid the foundation for the Office for Environmental Protection (OEP) to monitor and report on environmental improvement. The committee created a framework for measuring progress against the 25 Year Environment Plan and presented this in its Final Response to the 25 Year Environment Plan Progress Report. The plan is underpinned by the committee’s vision to secure a positive environmental legacy for future generations. Advice on government’s 25 Year Environment Planĭuring its second term (2016 to 2020) the committee focused on helping the government develop its 25 Year Environment Plan. The committee’s initial term ran from 2012 to 2015. The NCC advised the government on natural capital, including ecosystems, species, freshwaters, soils, minerals, the air and oceans, as well as natural processes and functions. Many of the functions of the NCC have now transferred to the Office for Environmental Protection. The Natural Capital Committee was an independent advisory committee which ran from 2012 to December 2020.
